Release: Even more demos working, more keyboard shortcuts
A new release of zeST is available! The following is a comprehensive description of the changes.
More demos working
A number of fixes have been made, improving compatibility with some demos that didn’t load into zeST initially. They mainly improve the loading of floppy disk images on some demos that use their own low-level code to address the Atari ST’s floppy disk controller and DMA system.
As you can see from the dedicated GitHub issue page, all demos I had previously identified as not able to load are now working.
I am not claiming to have solved all demos’ loading issues; there certainly still are rebellious ones out there. I am just being a little bit more confident on the stability of zeST when dealing with floppy disk loading code.
More keyboard shortcuts
As there are many different kinds of keyboards, the keyboard shortcuts could not work for you if some keys are missing. For instance, my keyboard has no Insert key, some do not have NumLock, etc.
For this, I am now starting to use the Meta (or as some would call, “Windows”) key as the key for keyboard combos. It has no use on a real ST, and is present on most keyboards, even on the tiniest pocket keyboards.
The new available shortcuts are:
- Meta+Enter: open the OSD menu
- Meta+Delete: press Insert key
- Meta+J: joystick emulation
That’s all folks!
This is all for this release, I hope you like it!
As usual, download and setup instructions are available on the Getting started page.
